Nithya Raman - Electoral Priority Electoral Campaign Endorsement Petition

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Nithya Raman, a Los Angeles City Council member representing District 4 and the council's Assistant President pro tempore, launched a mayoral campaign in February 2026, filing just hours before the deadline to challenge incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. An urban planner by training, Raman became the first candidate to unseat a sitting LA councilmember in 17 years when she won her council seat in 2020. She advanced past the June primary to face Bass in the November general election. Her mayoral platform centers on housing and homelessness: expanding both affordable and market-rate housing, cutting red tape and setting deadlines for permitting, preserving at-risk affordable units, and introducing "gentle density" in single-family-zoned neighborhoods. On homelessness, she has called for scaling back the city's Inside Safe motel program, preparing to part ways with the region's troubled homelessness authority, and has pledged to reduce street homelessness by at least 50% by the 2028 Olympics. When DSA-LA endorses someone or something that means not only are we vouching for them/it, we are also going to put in work in support of the candidate or initiative by forming a working group that will volunteer hundreds of hours organizing canvasses, phone banks, doing research, making content for social media, and more. It is a massive commitment to make and depends on large amounts of chapter enthusiasm and labor to mobilize and succeed in our electoral work.
