Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are a cornerstone of our higher education system. HBCUs make college accessible and attainable for students of all backgrounds, but especially Black students. But instead of providing these institutions with funding and the resources they need to serve students, some would rather see them shut their doors forever. In Mississippi, a state senator recently proposed legislation that would put three of the state’s HBCUs at risk of closure, and disproportionately harm Black students across the state.
