Every day, more and more Wall Street investors are placing bets to further drive up those costs. It's time we the people fight back for power - literally and figuratively. In Australia, they produce so much solar energy that every day that is has driven the cost of electricity down so much that they get free power for three hours a day. We have the technology. We have the resources. Now we just need to build the political will. Petition Text: As a constituent, I ask you fight to dramatically expand publicly owned renewable energy in our state. Not someday. Now. Right now, ratepayers are getting hammered by electric bills that keep climbing while the investor-owned utilities report record profits and ship billions to shareholders and out-of-state executives. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is paying fossil fuel companies hundreds of millions of dollars to abandon wind farms that were already under construction and gutted the clean energy tax credits that were driving the buildout. The result: nearly half a million clean energy jobs lost across red and blue states alike, including right here at home. These are jobs that can't come back unless you take action. This is a choice. And right now, our state is being asked to pick sides. I want our state on the side of people, not utilities, not fossil fuel lobbyists, not the billionaire donors. That means three things I want you to fight for this session: 1) Pass a strong state-level clean energy standard that gives publicly owned utilities, cooperatives, and municipal power agencies first claim on new renewable projects and guarantees ratepayers, not shareholders, capture the savings. 2) Empower cities and counties to build their own power. Make it easier, faster, and cheaper for municipalities to establish or expand public power, including community solar, microgrids, and small-scale wind owned by the people who use it. 3) Defend our state from federal sabotage. Stand up against any federal attempt to override state clean energy authority, and use state bonding, green banks, and public financing to backstop the projects the Trump administration is trying to kill. Publicly owned renewable energy is not a fringe idea. It's what works. When utilities are owned by the communities they serve, meaning bills are lower, decisions are local, and the transition happens on the timeline we need, not on the timeline of a Wall Street investor. I don't need you to agree with me on everything. I need you to pick a side on this one.
