Over 160 successful pilot programs across the country have shown that sending cash directly to people saves lives, dramatically reduces poverty, and stimulates local economies. So Rep. Rashida Tlaib is launching the Economic Dignity For All Agenda, a set of policies to provide universal monthly payments to families and individuals nationwide, including: The End Child Poverty Act, which would create a universal child allowance of $458 per child per month. Children would be automatically enrolled at birth, and every family would receive a monthly payment for every child they are caring for, from birth until the age of 19—providing a long-overdue safety net for all of our children. The BOOST Act (Building Our Opportunities to Survive and Thrive Act), which would help break the cycle of poverty and build economic security for all by providing $250/month to adults aged 19 to 67 years old. Passing this policy would also reduce the concentrated economic power of the few, distributing resources to the many. The Baby Bonus Act, which would support newborns and cover new expenses by providing every family with $2,000 upon the birth of their child. Many parents see their incomes decline in the months prior to and after a birth, making it even harder to afford the influx of necessary expenses like diapers and formula. These payments would be administered by the Social Security Administration, which already sends out monthly checks to 50 million seniors and could send these checks efficiently and effectively.
