Fortunately, UPenn is not backing down and is appealing the ruling. Forcing a university to identify employees based on religion and turn that information over to the federal government is frightening. The Trump administration says it's attempting to combat antisemitism, yet the very concept of creating a list like this is antisemitic. History shows the well-documented dangers of compiling lists of Jewish people, including physical harassment, loyalty investigations, and blacklists. If the Trump administration wins, this will not be contained to one university campus but will establish a framework that can be applied elsewhere: across universities, workplaces, and institutions nationwide, with names collected, lists created, and people exposed.
