This year has presented new and trying challenges for all of us. We are currently experiencing a devastating mass extinction event caused by human activities, and the coronavirus has changed our world and highlighted the critical importance of wildlife conservation anew. The good news is that the Endangered Species Coalition has a bold plan of action in response to the challenges we face: the Stop Extinction Challenge 2020. What: The Stop Extinction Challenge is an annual event where everyday Americans from across the country meet with their Senators to advocate for wildlife. These nationwide lobby meetings are a powerful show of support for key legislation like the Endangered Species Act and demonstrate that wildlife must be a priority for our elected officials. When: Thursday, August 20th, 2020 during the Congressional recess. Where: Virtual meetings will be held with Senators and their staff members all across the country. What you can do: Volunteer to lead a virtual Stop Extinction Challenge meeting with your Senator on August 20th. In 2019, the Endangered Species Coalition and our amazing team of volunteers held meetings at 77 Senate offices on one day. Your leadership can help make the Stop Extinction Challenge just as successful this year! Together we can create a megaphone to get our message through to Congress that we want and need laws, like the Endangered Species Act, that protect our nation’s biodiversity. You don’t need any previous experience; you only need to be excited about making your voice heard on this important issue. If you volunteer to lead a meeting, you will receive: Special training on how to lobby and how to lead a lobby meeting. A packet of materials including talking points and a meeting agenda. Assistance scheduling the meeting with your Senator. A free, limited edition Stop Extinction Challenge t-shirt by artist Roger Peet! Once you sign up to lead a meeting you will receive an email from us about next steps, including how to attend a training webinar and how to secure your free t-shirt. If you have any questions, you can contact Sarah Starman at sstarman@endangered.org.
