END THE LOCKOUT: Share a message of solidarity with USW Local 7-1 Workers at BP

Working people across the country are facing an energy crisis, struggling to keep the lights on and their gas tanks full. This manufactured crisis has been intensified by the lack of investment in energy infrastructure, the defunding of energy solutions to combat increasingly extreme weather events, and the U.S. war in Iran. The global energy company and war profiteer, British Petroleum (BP), has doubled its profits since the beginning of the U.S. war in Iran and rakes in billions in revenue each year. Meanwhile, over 800 workers at BP's Whiting, Indiana refinery have been locked out for nearly 100 days. On January 31, BP’s contract with United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7-1 expired. Instead of coming to the table in good faith, BP insisted that union members agree to massive job cuts, pay decreases, and even concede their right to bargain–a significant corporate attack on democracy. When USW Local 7-1 rejected BP’s “last, best and final” offer, the company locked out over 800 workers on March 19. Non-union contract workers now staff the facility. Since the lockout, there have been reports of multiple safety incidents, including fires and power outages, raising public safety concerns within the union and the Whiting community. BP pockets billions of dollars from multiple crises while chipping away at democratic rights and exploiting working people, but USW Local 7-1 members are holding the line. Stand with USW Local 7-1 by sending a message of solidarity! Chicago Jobs with Justice will deliver your message directly to workers as they rally to END the lockout outside of BP headquarters in Chicago on Friday, June 26.
