We're working with immigrant rights' organizations in Texas to get two asylum-seeking families out of Karnes Detention Center, run by the profiteering GEO Group, and into safe homes here in Northern California. In August, we'll be welcoming a family of 4 from Angola, and a family of 3 from Benin. We're renting each family a small apartment and taking care of their expenses for a year, and possibly longer. These asylum seekers will not be eligible for work permits for at least a year, meaning we're also taking on the cost of food, medication, clothing, legal fees, transportation, and other necessities. We estimate total costs for both families will be around $4000 a month. Can you help us show that #BlackImmigrantsMatter here in Northern California? Funds raised will go directly to rent, utilities, food, and other necessities for these families, and any remaining funds will support our work with dozens of other asylum-seeking families in our region! https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/welcome-to-norcal
