Support AB 68: Bigger Accessory Dwelling Units in more places

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

AB 68 closes a major loophole cities were using to prohibit Accessory Dwelling Units by allowing bigger ADUs. This is one of several critical ADU bills that help get more units built across the state. In 2016 California quietly ended single family zoning all over the state by passing a new law requiring cities to permit homeowners to add an "ADU" to their homes. "ADU" stands for "Accessory Dwelling Unit." Some homeowners turn their first floor into an apartment, basically making a duplex. Some homeowners convert an existing, free standing garage into an apartment, or build a new little house in their back yard. As soon as ADU legislation was passed in 2016, cities found ways to frustrate its goals. Cities should not be allowed to require a minimum lot size for ADUs. AB 68 also will require that cities allow ADUs larger than 800 sq ft. This bill is part of the CASA compact.
