Abolish ICE: Stop Terrorizing Our Cities

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/letters/photos/000/433/258/normal/IJWG_AN_Event_Cover.jpg</thumbnail_url>

ICE is waging war on cities across the country—from Minnesota to Texas, Maine, and New York. Just this week, we saw the agency shoot, wound, and abduct our neighbor Oscar Belgal in front of his five-year-old son in Marble Hill. No city is safer with ICE in our neighborhoods. ICE has no respect for human life, and people of all backgrounds across the country have routinely suffered abuse, neglect, and death at its hands. Trump and our federal government are using the force of ICE to sow division ahead of upcoming elections, and we will not allow them to use our immigrant neighbors as scapegoats. While Trump has escalated ICE’s operations, this did not begin with him. Past administrations have been complicit in ICE’s growing abuse of power, and the agency’s cruelty will continue regardless of who sits in the White House. We can no longer ignore the threat that ICE, which has only existed since 2002, poses to our communities and to our democracy. We call on our federal representatives in Congress to demand that ICE get out of New York, publicly support the abolition of ICE, and leverage their positions to defund and dismantle this terrorist agency.
