Act Now: Stop Louisiana’s Largest “Clean Energy” Pollution Project

In March, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) proposed an initial part 70 air operating permit, an initial prevention of significant deterioration (PSD) permit, and the associated environmental assessment statement (EAS) for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.’s Clean Energy Production Facility in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. If approved, Air Products will be permitted to become a major air pollution source by producing over 750 million cubic feet per day of hydrogen and ammonia from fracked natural gas, resulting in an additional 2.1 million tons of CO₂e a year. This will be the largest facility of its kind in the world. Additionally, the carbon captured at this facility would be stored underground at Lake Maurepas, a lake that is already full of heavy metals and pollutants. If developed as proposed, the Air Products “Clean Energy” production facility would be part of a 4.5 billion dollar energy complex that relies on untested and false solutions like carbon capture to claim they are clean or sustainable. We must do what we can to protect our homes and environment from those seeking to place profit over people. Here's how you can do your part: The LDEQ will accept public comments until May 5th, 2026. See below how to structure a compelling public comment and take a few minutes out of your day to take action.
