While Congress did not pass legislation last year, enormous progress was made. On January 3, the 116th Congress convened. Within a few days, Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA), Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, re-introduced the same pension funding legislation supported by the BCTGM last year. Passage of the legislation, the Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act (H.R. 397), is a top priority for the House leadership and for the labor movement. It is vital that BCTGM members continue to pressure Congress to support a legislative solution to the nation's growing pension crisis.
