Ask Gov. Spanberger to Sign the Virginia Homes Package!

5 bills, one goal. The Commonwealth Housing Coalition's bill package - five bipartisan housing bills - passed the General Assembly and now sit on Governor Spanberger's desk. While all five bills address different aspects of the housing shortage, they all work together to expand supply, cut costs, and break down barriers that keep home out of reach for working Virginians. Faith communities want to be part of the solution. Houses of worship hold strategically located, underutilized land. HB 1279/SB 388 removes bureaucratic barriers so they can build the affordable housing their neighbors need. Parking mandates are quietly making housing more expensive. Requiring off-street parking can add nearly $200/month to rent. HB 888 lets localities set smarter, modern parking policies and unlock more homes on the same land. ADUs and manufactured homes are proven, affordable options that are blocked by outdated zoning in too many Virginia localities. SB 531 and HB 655/SB 346 remove those barriers and expand choices for renters, seniors, and working families. Slow approvals kill affordable projects before they're built. HB 594 creates streamlined, time-certain pathways so that projects serving low- and moderate-income Virginians don't die in administrative limbo. Opposition groups are urging the Governor to veto these bills. If we stay quiet, they win. We need you to let Governor Spanberger know that the majority supports bold action on the housing shortage. Ask her to sign the Commonwealth Housing Coalition's bills into law. Take 60 seconds to send Governor Spanberger an email now!
