A Carbon Emission Reduction Pathways (CERP) report was presented to the WYCA meeting on 27 July. This report illustrates ways in which the climate emergency could be addressed in order to reach the goal of net zero in West Yorkshire by 2038. Kirklees has also set 2038 as its net zero target. The CERP study findings make it absolutely clear that allowing LBA to expand to 7 million passengers per annum by 2030 would significantly undermine the already highly challenging task of making Kirklees and West Yorkshire net zero by 2038. Leeds City Council has the power and opportunity to show the ‘highly ambitious leadership’ that is required to tackle the climate emergency by rejecting LBA’s planning application.
