Overwhelmingly, parents in this community believe diverse voices on our library shelves offer students the opportunity to feel seen, understood, and to learn about the lived experiences of others. While caregivers have the right to decide what people, values, and beliefs they wish to expose their children to at home, U.S. law does not grant them the right to impose those decisions on other parents’ children. As caregivers, we have a right to choose what our children do or do not read. We don’t need others making those choices for us.
