Support Safe and Fully Funded Public Schools

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Currently, districts across the state are not fully reimbursed for the revenue they lose to Commonwealth charter schools, which has led to the underfunding of many public schools throughout the state. Despite promises from lawmakers to refund districts, less than two-thirds of the revenue lost to charter schools has been reimbursed, leading to gaps in funding. This is a major problem for Massachusetts families since fully funded public schools are a critical part of student achievement. To ensure our schools receive the funding that they desperately need it is of the utmost importance that our state fully fund charter reimbursements. Additionally, the legislature needs to implement the recommendations of the Foundation Budget Review Commission by passing Senate Bill 2325 which would significantly increase more equitable state funding for education. Senate Bill 220 also needs to pass to ensure that Boston receives its fair share of increased funding. We also oppose House Bill 297, also known as the Peisch/Lesser "PASS Act" bill, which would create 'Innovation Partnership Zones' that would take away local stakeholder authority in oversight of district public schools and undermine collective bargaining rights. Finally, we support measures to strengthen gun reform and are asking our legislators to pass House Bill 3018, Extreme Risk Protective Order in Massachusetts. This important bill would empower MA families and law enforcement to temporarily prevent access to guns for individuals at 'elevated risk' to themselves or others.
