A new report has found that the same pipe had previously failed all the way back in 2018, but for over three years the oil giant had failed to fix the pipe or investigate further. Chevron can’t be trusted to report on themselves, because at the end of the day, the oil giant cares most about their own bottom line. Our regulatory agencies, from the county up to the state, should have the capacity, staff power, and oversight to transparently regulate the refinery and should not be made to rely on Chevron’s own self-produced reporting.
