If you live or work in Providence, it's crucial to let your city council member know that these bills have your support! Details of the two ordinances: BERO: Building Energy Reporting Ordinance. This bill would require that large buildings report their annual energy usage. Similar policy has been adopted in 30 other cities and two states, and has been shown to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Justice Plan Ordinance. This bill would codify the goals of the city's Climate Justice Plan; strengthen the Office of Sustainability; and add members of youth organizations and frontline communities to the city's Sustainability Commission. These ordinances were announced by Mayor Elorza, Councilwoman Helen Anthony, and Councilman Pedro Espinal at a launch event on January 13th. You can watch or read about the event.
