Almost every other public and state employee in the state of Maryland has the right to form a union, as do faculty at the peer institutions of UMS, yet year after year our legislator has failed to pass legislation that would afford the same rights to our higher educators. Non-tenure-track faculty face increasing workloads, stagnating pay, attacks on academic freedom, and tenuous job security in system that consistently erodes faculty voice, rendering shared governance meaningless.
