The administration immediately targeted federal agencies with executive orders designed to eliminate DEI in any shape or form. They’ve also made it their top talking point for anything and everything. From foreign aid to air traffic controllers, there’s no agency or employee that can’t attempt to defame by blaming DEI. This isn’t new. For more than two years, right-wing extremists have targeted corporations too. And they’ve been successful. From Walmart and McDonald’s to Meta and Ford, many corporations have eliminated DEI programs all together. Costco is the latest target. Republican attorneys general from 13 states are pressuring the company to abandon its DEI programs, including supplier diversity initiatives, scholarship programs, and fair hiring practices. They’re threatening legal action, claiming these efforts to promote equity are discriminatory. But Costco isn’t backing down. They’ve refused to cave to GOP pressure and are standing by their DEI commitments. And they’re not alone. Apple is also standing firm, publicly rejecting a conservative think tank’s push to dismantle its DEI policies too. We’ve seen what happens when companies only hear from the right-wing extremists. The bigots win. We cannot let that happen again.
