Rich Logis began supporting Donald Trump in 2015. Rich became a MAGA pundit, wrote numerous op-eds, and had his own podcast. During Trump’s first term, Rich came to realize the president wasn’t the person he thought he was. The botched handling of the COVID pandemic and the January 6 insurrection alienated him from the movement, and after an emotionally wrenching internal struggle, Rich left MAGA for good and vowed to work as long as necessary to make amends. Here’s what Rich told the Democratic National Convention as he endorsed Kamala Harris for President: “I finally stepped outside the MAGA echo chamber. I stopped listening to what Trump said and I looked around with my own eyes. And I realized he had been lying about pretty much everything. Lying is Trump's toxic superpower. He's ripped apart families, communities, our country.” One of the primary reasons people find it so difficult to leave MAGA is because it is a community. So Rich knew the first step was to create a new community and safe space for those who have left the movement already, or who are having doubts about staying in MAGA but are afraid to leave. That’s why Rich started Leaving MAGA, because courage is contagious. And he has found that the more people hear his story, the bigger the movement grows. Leaving MAGA created a how-to guide for people who want to reach out to loved ones and friends in MAGA, but aren’t sure how. It has helped former MAGA supporters craft their personal stories into powerful advocacy encouraging others to join them. Trump is destroying America and the MAGA movement is helping him do it. If we’re going to turn this country around, we need people still stuck in the movement to hear there’s a way out. We need to show them that people like them have left and thrived in a new community. People will take the leap if they know Leaving MAGA is there to catch them. From Jason Riddle, who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and ended up rejecting Trump’s pardon, to Stephania Messina, who came to MAGA through Christian Nationalism, Leaving MAGA amplifies the voices that people still in the movement need to hear. It’s time to spread the word. Everywhere. On hostile turf and friendly ground alike. It’s up to us to get this message covered by major media outlets. Click ‘START WRITING’ to sign and send a direct message to the CEOs of NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and FOX to cover the voices of people leaving MAGA.
