Demand the Immediate Release of Jorge

Today, we’re asking for your urgent support for Jorge Luis, a 22-year-old community leader, friend, and asylum seeker from Venezuela, who is currently held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) in Tacoma, WA. On February 19, 2025, Jorge received a call from ICE instructing him to report the next day. As he has always done throughout his asylum process, he complied. But, when he arrived on February 20, he was informed that his case was undergoing “custody redetermination” and was taken into detention. This is unjust. Jorge is a beloved member of Voz Workers’ Rights Education Project and the Portland, OR community. A young person who should be living freely, working, playing soccer, dancing bachata, and sharing space with friends. Detaining him during his asylum proceedings only adds trauma and hardship. That’s why NDLON and Voz are joining forces to organize a letter-writing campaign to demand Jorge’s lease and pressure DHS to grant him bail. Here’s how you can help: Send a letter to your representatives and senators, urging them to support Jorge’s release and advocate for his freedom. Your voice is critical in demonstrating to the court that Jorge is a vital part of our community and should not be held in detention while awaiting his hearing. Together, we cab show DHS and decision -makers that Jorge is not alone- and that our communities will always stand up for dignity, justice and liberation. Thank you for standing with Jorge!
