DoJ antitrust budget

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division is the agency in charge of fighting corporate concentration. This division successfully sued to block the JetBlue-Spirit merger, which would have made air travel more expensive and less safe. They just filed a lawsuit to block the Kroger-Albertsons merger that would lead to higher grocery prices. As the DOJ’s Antitrust Division prepares to fight corporate monopolies like Apple, Google, and Ticketmaster, Congress is on the verge of cutting its budget by 20% -- a move that surely has corporate lawyers doing summersaults of joy. These cuts will mean corporations can carry out plainly illegal mergers without facing consequences. Lax merger enforcement is how we wind up allowing Ticketmaster to buy LiveNation, creating a monopoly that punishes musicians, sports teams, and fans. Cutting Antitrust’s budget now will only increase the prices consumers pay down the road. Antitrust Division head Jonathan Kanter told us that his division currently has 250 fewer employees than they did in 1979. The current annual budget for Antitrust is a little over a quarter of what Apple spends on legal fees in a year. The Division in charge of protecting consumers from corporate monopolies can’t fight them with one hand tied behind its back! Stand up to Ticketmaster and Big Tech! Tell Congress to fully fund the DoJ Antitrust Division! Click “Start Writing” to send a message to your members of Congress! We’ve provided suggested language. You will be able to send that, or personalize it to maximize your impact!
