Despite the enormous dangers of AI, the White House wants to give Big Tech corporations and wealthy CEOs free rein to develop AI and maximize their profits, no matter the disastrous consequences. After Trump backed a bill that would undermine state-level AI regulations, he announced that he would sign an executive order to weaponize the DOJ to sue states who pass AI safety laws aimed at protecting kids, consumers, the financial system, and so much more.1,2 Big Tech corporations are already letting their AI tech run rampant throughout society. Now, Trump wants to hand over even more power to companies developing AI, joining a push that Ted Cruz has been leading for months. Sign the petition: Don’t let Trump block AI safety regulations. Placing guardrails on Big Tech and AI is critical to keep people safe! The AI preemption bill that Trump supports would hand Big Tech CEOs a “sweetheart deal” to develop this dangerous technology without guardrails.3 The measure would override state AI safety laws related to child safety, civil liberties, public health, discrimination, harassment, financial scams, and much more. It’s clear that Trump wants to steamroll over any regulations that would cut into Big Tech’s profits. America needs stronger safety measures for AI technologies, not this massive deregulation push.
