Demand Sec. Burgum rescind Secretarial Order 3431

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/groups/default_facebook_images/000/022/886/original/NOA_ActionFundBanner2.png?1668645803</thumbnail_url>

Secretarial Order 3431 seeks to rewrite and sanitize American history, promoting inaccurate propaganda over truth. Already, under this order, an exhibit has been removed from Muir Woods National Monument -- it provided visitors with an understanding of the Coast Miwok Tribe’s stewardship of the land, and the colonial violence that led to the displacement of the Tribe. This order threatens the telling of any uncomfortable history, from the brutality of slavery to the incarceration of Japanese Americans to the genocide of Indigenous peoples. It calls for the review and removal or replacement of any language, images, or information that “disparages Americans past or living (including persons living in colonial times).” Dr. Valerie Grussing, Executive Director of the National Association of Tribal Preservation Officers, said in response to this order: "No one benefits from sanitized history. We can only truly do justice to American history by telling the full story, instead of erasing evidence of the pain and suffering Indigenous peoples experienced at the hands of the United States Government and other colonial powers. NATHPO calls on the Administration to rescind this order, restore signage in any place where erasure has already occurred, and work with Tribal Nations and any other descendent communities to ensure we tell this nation's history in its entirety." Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund and more than 100 of our allies have sent a letter to Secretary Burgum demanding he immediately rescind this dangerous order and respect Tribal Nations’ sovereignty when making decisions about Tribal homelands. Click “Start Writing” to send this letter directly to Sec. Burgum now.
