Alternatives to animal testing are proving to be more effective in predicting whether drugs will work and be safe in humans. The use of test methods based on human biology could cut the time to market in half for new drugs and reduce costs as much as five-fold. The existing requirement that drugs be tested in animals impedes the development of life-saving medicine. The FDA Modernization Act lifts the requirement for animal testing, allowing research to move forward with testing that is more relevant to human health than animal testing.
