Fight to Protect Grand Teton National Park

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Major League Baseball is pushing to build a ballpark in Grand Teton National Park. Now, the Washington Post is reporting that National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands visited Grand Teton last week and examined at least three potential ballpark sites. MLB’s outrageous proposal would put a corporate spectacle ahead of protecting an irreplaceable national treasure, and Trump’s park officials should be stopping it from advancing, not helping find the perfect location for it. Constructing baseball facilities and bringing a large crowd into Grand Teton would disrupt wildlife habitat, overwhelm park resources, and damage the landscape people come to experience. Even if only a temporary stadium were approved, that does nothing to erase the lasting harm construction, noise, lights, and crowds could cause. The community is already sounding the alarm. The chair of the Teton County Commissioners, the mayor of Jackson, and the chief executive of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce have formally opposed the proposal. They warn that habitat fragmentation alone should be enough to kill any plan. MLB should be ashamed that local leaders have to explain why protected national parkland is an inappropriate setting for its next promotional event. Allowing this project would create a dangerous precedent for other corporations seeking to turn our national parks into commercial venues. Every company with a big audience and an expensive event could point to MLB and ask for the same treatment. Imagine: a NASCAR speedway in the Grand Canyon or a monster truck rally in Yellowstone could be next. The league must withdraw its proposal immediately. People nationwide must demand that the league respect the community’s opposition, protect public land, and keep its baseball facilities out of Grand Teton – or any of our national parks. Click ‘START WRITING’ to sign and send your letter to Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. Don’t help Trump destroy Grand Teton National Park. Abandon this proposal now.
