The vote failed in a 3-3 decision. After the vote, the Florida Attorney General, James Uthmeier, made legal threats to remove our elected council members from the council. Later, on March 21, 2025, the Fort Myers City Council then unanimously approved the 287(g) agreement with ICE. But this is not how our democracy operates. We the people elect our representatives, and those representatives should not be coerced to vote one way over another. On August 4th, our community will be present at the city council meeting from 4:30 - 8 PM to demand that the council revisit the agreement. We will also be sending letters to encourage the council to revise the agreement and join Key West and Orlando against the unconstitutional ICE raids happening in our neighborhoods.
