Fully Fund Our Schools

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Boston Teachers Union is committed to ensuring a quality education for all of our students, regardless of where those students come from or the circumstances in which they arrive to our classrooms. We need your support to advocate for full funding of the charter reimbursements through a supplemental budget AND for a Foundation Budget bill which includes EL and low-income students as well as a concrete timeline for full implementation and funding. Boston is the Commonwealth’s largest and most economically and racially diverse school district. English Language Learners make up 31% of our student body, and 66% of our students come from low-income families. These are the very children who will be hurt by a bill that does not include the Senate’s funding recommendations for both EL and low-income students. The formula has not changed in over 25 years and report after report has found that we are underfunding our schools. The current House version of this bill has concrete funding goals as well as a timeline, but would fail our students with the highest needs and does not help Boston students in a timely enough way. If we truly believe in closing achievement and opportunity gaps in our Commonwealth, we need to take this opportunity to match our dollars to our values--our highest needs students have waited long enough for the resources they need to succeed.
