But, we still need you to take action. On September 30th, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government until November 17th, which has successfully averted the looming threat of a government shutdown. Our advocacy to prevent additional funds to ICE and CBP worked! We successfully advocated that Congress reject the White House request for over two additional billion dollars to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and prevent the inclusion of extreme anti-immigrant proposals. THANK YOU to all those who sent letters and made calls! This is the power of organizing together against immigration enforcement and border militarization. However, this continuing resolution also means that congress will continue funding ICE and CBP at the same level set for the previous fiscal year: an annual rate of $25 billion. The next 45 days are critical in ensuring that we divest from ICE and CBP and invest in what our communities truly need. We must call on our elected officials to champion our demands during the coming negotiations for the Fiscal Year 2024 DHS spending bill. Continue to take action with us at this critical time!
