Help Protect Maine Soil and Water From PFAS

During the 2021 legislative session, Maine lawmakers passed many important bills to address the state's escalating crisis of PFAS contamination. There remains a great deal of work to be done, and additional laws are needed. The Legislature's Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee has expressed overwhelming support for: LD 1911 - An Act To Prohibit the Contamination of Clean Soils with So-called Forever Chemicals, which will ban sludge spreading and close loophole that allow PFAS-contaminated sludge to be diluted with clean soil or commercial compost; and LD 1875 - An Act To Address Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Pollution from State-owned Solid Waste Disposal Facilities, which creates a plan to pre-treat landfill leachate for PFAS. Please join us in urging the Legislature to support both of these bills and to continue efforts to turn off the PFAS tap and promote safer alternatives to these highly hazardous materials. Thank you!
