In Colorado, immigrant advocacy groups have been reporting the use of “death cards” by ICE field agents. These ace of spades playing cards were used during the Vietnam War by U.S. troops claiming credit for kills, as immortalized in the 1979 Vietnam War film “Apocalypse Now.” According to the president and CEO of Voces Unidas, an organization that provides legal assistance to immigrants in Colorado: “Leaving a racist death card behind after targeting Latino workers is an act of intimidation. This is not about public safety. It is about fear and control. It’s rooted in a very long history of racial violence.” These customized cards have been found in the cars of people who have been abducted by ICE. We’re demanding those responsible for this intimidation are held accountable.
