Kentucky: Depenalize Cannabis Possession

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Lawmakers have filed legislation, House Bill 106, to remove criminal penalties for the possession of personal use quantities of cannabis in Kentucky. If passed, this bill would remove criminal penalties for possession of up to one ounce of cannabis, five grams of concentrate, 1,000mg of consumable cannabis products, and cultivation of up to five cannabis plants. Currently under state law, those arrested for cannabis possession face up to 45 days in jail. In fact, between 2018 and 2023, police made over 25,000 marijuana-related arrests. Over 80 present of these arrests were for possession only. Minor marijuana possession offenders, many of them young people, should not be saddled with an arrest, jail time, and with the lifelong penalties and stigma associated with it. Please use this letter to urge lawmakers to support HB 106.
