It also included 2% across-the-board raises for Higher Education faculty and staff. In addition, it provided an additional average 2% raise for each of these groups of educational workers, totaling approximately a 4% raise over all for the next budget year. Late on Friday afternoon, when the Roundhouse was mostly empty, we learned that members of the Senate Finance Committee, chaired by Sen. George Muñoz, are considering cutting their own recommendation of an approximate 4% raise (as outlined above) to a flat 3% raise for all educational employees. This is unacceptable, and frankly disrespectful to the thousands of hardworking educators at each step of our public education system. We work in challenging conditions in every corner of our State and we work hard to educate our students and serve our communities.
