Ending the federal COVID Public Health Emergency (PHE) declaration not only increases health risk to people with disabilities and others (see here), it increases hunger and puts as many as 15 million persons at risk of losing health insurance via Medicaid. Eligible people are routinely canceled due to the cumbersome red tape called 'redetermination.' Now the Republican-led House of Representatives wants to revive Trump-era barriers to Medicaid and make deep cuts to health care, housing and more. Tell Congress NO to cuts. Health care should be considered a human right. These attacks on health coverage mean millions of people caught up in red tape, added 'work requirements' (which have never 'worked'), and broad cuts - devastating to poor people, people with disabilities, seniors, and the workers that support them. Even without the added cuts and barriers, about 650,000 people across the country are on waiting lists for Medicaid-funded Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) - leaving them no choice but nursing homes.
