Thankfully, this omnibus legislation includes the Greyhound Protection Act, an historic bill that will outlaw dog racing nationwide. At the 11th hour, a lone member of Congress has offered an amendment, Amendment #269, that dismantles the Greyhound Protection Act and creates a permanent carve-out for West Virginia, the only state with live racing. If this disgraceful amendment passes, greyhound racing would continue in West Virginia indefinitely. The greyhounds now need your help to defeat Amendment #269. Please write to your House Member now, thank them for supporting the Greyhound Protection Act as a cosponsor, and urge him or her to OPPOSE Amendment #269. The Greyhound Protection Act overwhelmingly passed the House Agriculture Committee by voice vote in March and has the support of key Democrats and Republicans in Congress. It is inappropriate for a single lawmaker to hold up progress for greyhounds, and cause dogs to continue to suffer and die on racetracks.
