Pardons to Progress: Tell Your Governor to Free Cannabis Prisoners

On October 6th, 2022, President Biden pardoned more than 6,500 people convicted of federal marijuana possession. He also acknowledged the fact that the vast majority of cannabis convictions take place on the state level. Thus, he encouraged the country’s governors to use their clemency authority to issue similar relief for the tens of thousands still suffering harm from past cannabis criminalization. Americans on both sides of the aisle support pardoning those with cannabis-related convictions. But the public needs to pressure their governors to do what’s right. Through our Pardons to Progress campaign, we’re calling on state governors to deliver bold action and immediate relief by granting clemency to the tens of thousands burdened by state-level cannabis-related convictions. In order to help end the injustice that is cannabis criminalization, urge your Governor to take action and use their power to provide relief for individuals currently incarcerated for cannabis, as well as those still suffering collateral consequences from a previous cannabis conviction.
