Urge your senators to co-sponsor and pass the GREEN Streets Act now!

The transportation sector is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. For decades, states have used billions in federal transportation funds to expand highways without any accountability for the climate destruction they cause. That has to stop. The GREEN Streets Act would finally force change. It requires states to measure transportation emissions and vehicle miles traveled. If they fail to reduce them, they would be legally required to redirect a portion of their funding to projects that actually reduce pollution, like transit, biking, walking, and rail. It also blocks states from expanding highways unless the existing roads are in good repair and the expansion can be proven to reduce emissions. This bill puts the climate crisis front and center. No more greenwashing. No more reckless expansions that make pollution worse. If states want federal dollars, they will have to earn them by cutting emissions and investing in cleaner options for the public. Every day we wait, we lock in more carbon, more traffic, and more public money wasted on projects that make the climate crisis worse. We need a national standard that rewards action and punishes delay. The GREEN Streets Act delivers exactly that. The climate crisis is here, and our transportation policy must catch up. Click ‘START WRITING’ to sign and send a messaging urging your Senators to co-sponsor and pass the GREEN Streets Act now.
