Pass the Wildlife Corridors Act—Protect Wildlife and Communities

Wild animals don’t recognize highways, pipelines, or sprawling development—but those barriers are everywhere. Across the country, habitat destruction is trapping wildlife in shrinking, disconnected pockets. A young mountain lion pushed into traffic while searching for territory. Elk herds cut off from their migration routes. A black bear forced to risk its life crossing a highway just to find food. This is a crisis—and Congress can act. The Wildlife Corridors and Habitat Connectivity Conservation Act (H.R. 8438) would create the first-ever National Wildlife Corridors System, protecting and restoring the pathways animals depend on to survive. It brings together federal, state, and Tribal leadership to identify key corridors and invest in real solutions—like wildlife crossings and habitat restoration—that reconnect our fractured landscapes. Wildlife corridors are lifelines. Without them, animals are stranded—facing starvation, deadly road crossings, and genetic isolation that pushes species toward decline and extinction. And this isn’t just about wildlife—it’s about all of us. Wildlife-vehicle collisions kill hundreds of people and injure thousands every year, while costing billions in damages. Protecting corridors makes roads safer, safeguards clean water, and supports local economies built on outdoor recreation. This bill also empowers communities, Tribes, and landowners to lead conservation solutions that work on the ground. We can stop forcing animals into deadly choices. We can reconnect the landscapes they need to live. Congress has a chance right now to protect countless individual animals—and the ecosystems we all depend on. Tell your representatives: Stop the fragmentation. Protect wildlife. Pass H.R. 8438. _______ Source: Rep.
