The GOP’s proposal targets Medicaid with $2.3 trillion in cuts, which would strip healthcare from children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Programs like SNAP, which stave off hunger for millions of families, face severe reductions while funding for public education would be gutted. This is only part of the story. The House Budget Chair’s “Reverse the Curse” plan goes even further, calling for $16 trillion in cuts over the next decade. These proposals aim to dismantle Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid entirely. For generations, these programs have been a promise to American workers, but the GOP’s plan shreds that promise in favor of protecting the wealth of a privileged few. The wealthiest Americans and corporations continue to benefit from massive tax breaks. The Trump-GOP tax cuts of 2017 slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to just 21%, while maintaining loopholes that billionaires exploited to pay lower tax rates than teachers, nurses and firefighters. If Congress renews all aspects of the expiring Trump Tax Scam, the top 0.1%—just 200,000 families—would see an average tax cut in the first year alone of $314,000, while the bottom 50% of families would receive less than $1 a day. These tax breaks would add $5.5 trillion to the national debt, creating more budget pressure on vital public services. Congress could reduce the debt by closing loopholes and raising the corporate tax rate to at least 28%, generating hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue. But instead, they’re attacking programs that support working families. We cannot let this happen. Together, we can fight back against this cruel and unnecessary plan. Congress must hear from Americans who understand what’s at stake.
