Ask A. H. Belo to Voluntarily Recognize the Dallas News Guild

On July 20, an overwhelming majority of employees in our newsroom — both Al Día Dallas and The Dallas Morning News — asked A. H. Belo's majority owner Robert Decherd to voluntarily recognize the Dallas News Guild and begin contract negotiations as a unit of The NewsGuild-CWA. We have not heard back. We're asking for voluntary recognition because it will save the company valuable time and money that could better be spent elsewhere, knowing that an election will bring about the same result. We don’t need to sit through an anti-union campaign — we need to get back to work. The Dallas News Guild's membership is strong and grows stronger every day. A majority of the newsroom has signed union authorization cards. The signatures have come from every corner of our newsroom, spanning all backgrounds, ages and job titles. We want to help protect the 135-year-old family legacy of America’s top regional newspaper. We want to make sure Dallas and North Texans keep getting local news that you need to make informed decisions about schools, business, sports, housing, the arts and everything else that matters to you and your family.
