Reject South Carolina $400 EV Tax

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/letters/photos/000/443/371/normal/LD_(1).png</thumbnail_url>

South Carolina legislators are considering increasing state taxes on electric vehicles (EVs) to $400 every two years, significantly more than what drivers of comparable gas vehicles pay in gas taxes. This fee will also increase in line with inflation in the coming years, while the gas tax will remain unchanged. In February, the Senate removed these punitive tax proposals in response to public pressure. Unfortunately, the House has since replaced the Senate language with its own version, which reinstates the $400 biennial EV tax. The bill is now headed to the House floor for debate and a vote as early as this week. If it passes, the Senate will need to decide whether to accept these changes before the bill is sent to the governor. Tell South Carolina legislators: No $400 EV tax!
