Reject Sweeping Eminent Domain Powers for Private Development

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

On June 15th, House Democratic Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst secretly released a bill from committee that would give the City of Wilmington eminent domain rights, or the right to seize any property they deem vacant or abandoned for “part of a community development plan necessary to prevent the decline or decay of the property or its surrounding area.” Housing and community advocates oppose this bill, and fear that it will be used to seize properties primarily owned by Black and Brown residents. An incredibly important bill like this should not have been secretly released from committee with NO hearing and NO public comment. Tell your legislators that you oppose this bill, and oppose the way it was released without hearing from the community.
