With Trump returning to office in a matter of weeks, the chance he uses legislation like this to make good on his repeated promises to punish his political enemies and critics, possibly including Win Without War, is sky high. That’s why we, alongside hundreds of civil liberties, religious, reproductive health, immigrant rights, human rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+, environmental, and educational organizations have been unequivocal in our opposition to H.R 9495. We can’t overstate how important this legislative moment is, but the troubling reality is that it’s just the beginning of a whole new era.
