Say No to Anti Voting Bills

Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta opposes any bill that targets the voting rights of AAPI voters and communities of color. Bills like HB 531 and SB 241 seek to undo the hard work of voters by creating unnecessary and illegitimate barriers for voters. Voters cannot trust in a system that no longer seeks to expand access but causes further distrust of the elections process and elected officials. Georgia’s voters deserve better than what is being offered and should not be punished for legally casting their votes as they so chose to do. We stand together and demand that our elected officials put an end to the conspiracy theories and dangerous rhetoric that could cost Georgians their right to vote. Take Action! Email your elected officials to vote NO to Anti-Voting bills and their harmful impact on AAPI voters and communities of color. OPPOSE HB 531 and SB 241. Vote ‘NO’ on HB 531 to SB 241. Elected officials must eliminate barriers, not create new ones that serve no legitimate purpose. Expanding, not eliminating, access should be the priority., not eliminating access. Voters should have the right to choose when and how they cast their vote. Weekend voting hours are crucial for voters who are members of the working class and deserve a fair shot at casting their ballot while maintaining their jobs. 85% of AAPI voters used absentee voting and advance voting to cast their ballots. Any attempts to change how we do absentee voting in Georgia that is limiting is a direct attack on AAPI voters and communities of color. HB 531 and SB 241 will disenfranchise thousands of voters of color by invalidating provisional ballots cast because a voter was at the wrong precinct, leaving their voice and vote uncounted. During a global pandemic and after, voters should be allowed to vote in a safe, secure, and accessible manner. Voters should be allowed to choose whether to vote in-person or absentee to protect themselves. HB 531 and SB 241 cost too much money for a problem that does not exist. Specifically, HB 531 contains provisions that would pass on serious unfunded mandates to our counties that would have extremely costly taxpayer impacts. An independent analysis by Voting Rights Lab found that HB 531 could incur over $50 million in total new costs statewide. We urge you to vote no and stop measures such as these. Georgians deserve better.
