These employees serve as appeals referees and claims interviewers – all roles that are necessary for the functioning of the DOL. During the COVID crisis, when an unprecedented volume of UI claims flooded the DOL, they performed heroically and processed thousands of claims to provide economic support to families in need. Some of these employees have worked for DOL for over four years. The State needs to retain these skilled employees, not lay them off. Their vast institutional knowledge and skills are an asset for our State and taxpayers.
