The U.S. and Israeli governments have violated international law and committed war crimes by bombing schools, hospitals, and sports facilities -- killing more than 550 Iranians so far, including 160 schoolchildren. U.S. residents do not want war, and neither do the Iranian people. This illegal war of aggression on Iran violates Iranians’ sovereignty and endangers people throughout the region. Now, Iran’s retaliatory strikes have killed 6 U.S. servicemembers and 9 Israelis. And Israel’s military is using the cover of war to intensify attacks on Lebanon, the West Bank, and Gaza -- killing at least 52 Lebanese people and forcibly displacing many more. The United States has the largest military in the world, and it’s the world’s biggest buyer of fossil fuels, as well as one of the biggest contributors to climate change. Half of the annual U.S. military budget goes to military corporations that profit off weapons and war. And every year, Congress spends more and more on the military -- allocating close to $1 trillion each year. The U.S. government should be focused on the health and well-being of our communities and the protection of the natural world.
