With about 56,000 people living in Greenland, those payouts alone could cost up to $6 billion, all while Americans at home are being pushed off health insurance and priced out of care. At the same time Trump is floating these bribes, his administration has enacted devastating health care cuts. His budget slashes Medicaid funding, lets enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies expire, and accelerates coverage losses for low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. Analysts estimate around 17 million people could lose coverage, with millions more facing sharply higher premiums. This is not a matter of limited resources. It is a matter of priorities. Even a fraction of the money Trump wants to spend bribing Greenlanders could be used to extend ACA premium tax credits, stabilize Medicaid, keep safety net hospitals open, and invest in mental health and substance use treatment across the country. Instead, Trump is asking Congress to bankroll a foreign policy vanity project while Americans go without care. Congress has the power to stop this.
