Support Affordable Groceries

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Right now, large grocery companies have the unchecked power to gather vast amounts of data on anyone who walks through their doors and use that information to personalize the cost of an item depending on who the customer is. The moment you pick up an item, they’re scanning your online history, past purchases, even your location information to determine how much to charge you before you even reach the register. This is called surveillance pricing and in combination with "electronic shelf labels," large grocery companies can instantly change the cost of an item right in front of you. Without any rules in place, large grocery chains are able to use digital technology and artificial intelligence to exploit customers and destroy jobs as grocery workers lose hours, jobs, and ultimately, their livelihoods. This practice must stop. Tell your elected officials to stop surveillance pricing and electronic shelf labeling in our grocery stores.
