Support an Immediate Ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza War

Many UFPJ member organizations – Veterans For Peace, FCNL, the Campaign for Peace Disarmament and Common Security, CODEPINK, and others – are urging de-escalation and an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war. Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D- MI), and others have championed legislation in support of a Congressional resolution calling for immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine and to send humanitarian aid and assistance to Gaza. This in no way would legitimize Hamas’ October 7 massacres. We urge you to write your representative in support of H. Res 786. Why a ceasefire? Gaza desperately needs humanitarian aid and water, and more trucks must be allowed to safety enter Gaza to prevent mass starvation and dehydration. The death toll on both sides is already too high. Urban warfare amidst the rubble caused by aerial bombing will claim the lives of many Israelis as well as Hamas forces and will result in still more civilian casualties. Continued fighting will lead to more hostages and prisoners being taken. And if the war goes on it only increases the likelihood that Hezbollah in Lebanon will open up a two-front war for Israeli. Enlargement of the conflict could involve the thousands of U.S. troops now in the war zone and even lead to Israeli/U.S. vs. Iran war with its nuclear implications. What a ceasefire could achieve: Hostage rescue and the free passage of internationals, the wounded, children, and civilians out of Gaza. Saving thousands of lives by getting humanitarian aid into Gaza. Preventing enlargement of the conflict to other nations in the region. Coalescing international forces – states and civil society – for diplomacy to end this war, to end Israeli’s post-1967 occupations, and to credibly lay the foundations for resolution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict in ways that provide for Israeli AND Palestinian self-determination, mutual recognition, and enduring security. CEASEFIRE & DIPLOMACY NOW! The UFPJ Coordinating Committee
